Our Vision and Values
If you are already familiar with our school, you will know that we often refer to ourselves as SBS. This is not only our name but also our vision. At SBS, we work together so that everyone can S - Strive, B - Believe and S - SHINE.
The Meaning of 'SHINE' at South Baddesley
Our version of SHINE requires different skills to those you may initially think of. It isn't about outperforming others; it is about outgrowing your yesterday.
"To 'shine' at South Baddesley is a personal journey, not a race. We believe that shining means striving to become the very best version of yourself—not in competition with others, but as an inspiration to them. It is about personal growth, integrity, and becoming a role model through your own unique character and kindness."
How we live this every day:
Self-Reflection over Comparison: We celebrate individual milestones and personal bests.
Character as a Skill: We value kindness and integrity as highly as academic achievement.
Leading by Example: Our pupils learn that by being their best selves, they naturally encourage those around them to do the same.
This vision is founded in a culture and ethos of ‘kindness.’ We believe that there are three types of kindness:
kindness to ourselves,
kindness to others and
kindness to the world.
Through our ‘vision and values’ we inspire to develop WISDOM, CURIOSITY, INNOVATION and EXCELLENCE for all our children.
WISDOM - A growth in knowledge, understanding and skills can lead to the ability to show 'wisdom'. Our commitment to 'wisdom' comes from a desire to help children use their new knowledge and skills in a manner that respects humanity, promotes compassion and deep, ethical thinking.
CURIOSITY - The world is an intriguing and amazing place to be and learning helps us to explore our world.
Questions and a thirst to know and do more makes our learning exciting and fun. We believe that curious minds are interested and contented minds. Being curious removes barriers and challenges prejudice.
INNOVATION - Creativity runs deeply through all innovative projects. Combined with a love of problem-solving and deep thinking, innovation can help to build confidence, resourcefulness and opportunities for all learners.
EXCELLENCE - Our ambition is to 'shine' so that we are always achieving the most from our life-long journey in education. Achievements can be demonstrated in many different ways. Excellence doesn't always need to be the loudest contribution to learning but being able to show excellence and to shine, leads to the biggest 'changes' and growth.
As a Church of England Primary School, our vision is rooted in Biblical verse that helps us to understand that to ‘shine.’
'Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven'.
Matthew 5
