Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

  • South Baddesley School offers a nurturing, family-focused environment where children are known and valued as individuals. With small teaching groups, a strong community feel, and a hands-on approach to learning (including outdoor and farm-based experiences), children benefit from both academic support and real-world learning opportunities.  Our outcomes show that children ‘shine’ throughout their time with us and are able to successfully transition to the next stage of learning at age 11, with firm foundations for learning and friendships securely embedded.

  • We welcome children from nursery age (3 years) through to primary school. This allows children to grow and develop in a familiar, supportive setting throughout their early years and get a head start on their learning.

  • We take a balanced approach that combines strong academic teaching with creative, outdoor and practical experiences. Our curriculum has three important strands, knowledge, character development and the development of problem-solving skills.  We use off-site visits and visitors to school whenever possible to enhance the children’s learning.  We love reading and provide access to high quality literature every day.  Children learn through exploration, curiosity and hands-on activities, helping them stay engaged and motivated.

  • Our staff are passionate, caring and highly qualified professionals who are committed to helping every child thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. With experience across the early years and primary age range, they create a warm and supportive environment where children feel valued and inspired to learn. We also believe learning never stops for adults, so staff benefit from excellent professional development and ongoing training to continually grow and develop in their roles.

  • Yes, outdoor learning is a key part of life at the school. Children regularly take part in activities on the school grounds and farm, helping them develop independence, teamwork and a connection with nature.

  • In addition to classrooms, the school benefits from a large field and well landscaped outdoor spaces including a developing school farm, pond, play equipment and meadow. We make the most of being in the grounds of Pylewell Estate, close to the sea and the forest. Our learning spaces provide unique opportunities for children to learn about animals, sustainability and responsibility in a real-life context.

  • Children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Staff build strong relationships with pupils, creating a safe and supportive environment where children feel happy, confident and ready to learn.  We teach children social and emotional skills in small groups; we use a range of resources to support children’s learning, including award-winning resources such as ‘MyHappyMind.’

  • We believe strong communication with families is essential. Parents are kept informed through regular updates, informal conversations, school communications – Friday Bulletin and social media. Each child has a Google Classroom account and teachers provide weekly updates about learning and provide resources to support all learners.  We encourage parents to be part of the school community.

  • Absolutely. South Baddesley has a welcoming, close-knit community where parents, staff and children work together. Events, volunteering opportunities and shared projects help strengthen these connections. Our Friends of SBS welcome new members to support fundraising activities throughout the year.

  • Children have access to a range of activities that may include outdoor learning, creative projects and involvement with the school farm. Children have the opportunity to develop leadership responsibilities through our Ambassador roles.  Children access a range of sports through our excellent sports curriculum which includes swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities.  We participate in weekly sports competitions.  There are also great opportunities for additional music lessons; children can join a ‘rock’ band, learn the guitar, piano or a range of woodwind instruments.  We enjoy termly Teatime Concerts where musicians across the school have an opportunity to perform to friends and families.  These experiences, and many more, enrich learning beyond the classroom.

  • We take care to ensure a smooth and positive transition, especially for younger children starting in nursery or Reception. Settling-in sessions and close communication with parents help children feel comfortable from the start.

  • IYes, visits are warmly welcomed. Seeing the school in action is the best way to understand what makes it special and staff are happy to answer any questions during your visit. We have scheduled Open Days throughout the year, which are advertised across our social media and website.
